this song took a good 5-6 years to finish, mostly due to it disappearing into the ether for about 80% of that time, after the initial tracking, but it never left my mind & it was one of the first things i was able to do after getting home from the hospital/ICU - getting the session finally & finding a way to complete it how i always envisioned when i first wrote it all the way back then. glad i did.
a song dedicated to my uncle leon who i owe the world to for a million reasons, including exposing me to so much of the music i've loved so much, and always encouraging and supporting me openly & sincerely with the music i wanted to make and what i wanted to do with it. he led me to the well and waited as long he needed for me to drink the water (he bought me a minor threat cd when i started middle school and said "you might not like this very much today, but one day you'll appreciate it"). I will (and do) miss him terribly.
a song also dedicated to my grandparents, who did the same, in a far, far, far more reserved way (when my uncle bought me a ted leo cd, my grandmother asked to see it - read the lyric booklet that came with it and saw the line "virgin mary, cheating whore"and nearly fainted, later calling her son to give him an earful about it. but she never even tried to take the cd away, to her credit. two absolutely wonderful people i will also (and do) miss very much.
